Entry #1

I was 28 years old, and my world literally did a 180 in the blink of an eye…well not really, I had caused everything to happen the way it did. Honestly, I wouldn’t change it for anything well, maybe if anything I would have done it sooner.

I had just moved out of my husband’s house (now ex husband) and in with a friend. My ex and I were employed by the same company and I chose to leave that job (as he had it prior to even knowing me). So that is exactly what I did, I knew I needed to find a job that I would enjoy doing in order to truly be happy in life.

Baking and crocheting were my two favorite hobbies and to tell you the truth I did not want to work at a yarn or craft store. So I applied at our local bakery supply store. It wasn’t even two weeks and I had landed the job. It was great, I could talk about everything I enjoyed doing as well as teach others what I knew. I was able to learn so much from these wonderful ladies I now worked with. They were kind and encouraging, it made me feel at home and happy.

At this time all I did was bake and decorate super simple birthday cakes and I thought that I truly enjoyed it. I would bake some other things here and there but nothing too fancy. During my time at Country Kitchen they offered classes to the public and as an employee we were given the opportunity to attend as well. Everyone kept telling me that I should learn how to make decorated sugar cookies but, I kept up with my excuse of…I already have to much baking stuff at home, I can’t add a ton of cutters as well. Then one of my coworkers suggested that I at least take one class so that I could learn enough to help more customers. So I agreed to this and my whole baking adventure changed.

I took the class…I was pretty good at it. I had so much fun and was not stressed at all! (Unlike when I would decorate cakes.) I kept practicing over the next few weeks and within the next two months I had needed up selling all of my cake decorating supplies that I didn’t think I would need (minus a few things I would need to make family cakes) and started purchasing cookie decorating tools!

First Cookies I ever decorated.
First Cookies I ever decorated.

It’s now been 6 years since the start of that adventure and it’s been a wild ride! Come back soon and I’ll tell you all about it.

Till next time, Happy Baking

Becky
